ABOUT INVASIVE GREEN CRAB DETECTION MONITORING
Invasive European green crabs pose a significant threat to eelgrass meadows and marsh platforms, and early detection is key to mitigating their impacts. A protocol aimed at community groups and Guardians describes in detail how to carry out an early detection monitoring program. There is also a series of videos demonstrating the methods and an interactive mapping tool to assist with identifying survey locations. All of these products were created in partnership with Coastal Restoration Society with funding from DFO’s Aquatic Invasive Species Program. If a green crab is found, it is important to report it to DFO by emailing . With this map, you can see where European green crabs have been detected in BC.
