ABOUT THE DOCUMENT AND WEBINAR
The Coastal Watershed Institute (‘CWI’) has led research on kelp forests, forage fish, salmon, and zooplankton studies for upwards of 30 years. In this protocol document, CWI’s techniques and advice for conducting surveys that studying the dynamics of fish in kelp forests are outlined in a practical way to empower users to conduct their own surveys. Special sections discuss the how to overcome the difficulties of working in a complex environment documenting small skittish subjects and all of the considerations that must be taken. In February of 2026, PSF hosted CWI to present their techniques in a webinar, which was recorded is also available here.
